The method

How to read the scores

The 22 criteria below total 100%. Ratings are indicative judgments across product fit, detection coverage, practical adoption and market maturity. They are not independent lab benchmarks.

What qualified

Tools in this list identify visitors, devices or IP addresses and help detect risky users. It excludes products focused only on CAPTCHA, KYC, chargeback guarantees or a general web application firewall.

Read the score carefully

A tenth of a point is a close call. Mobile coverage, account-level detection and the cost of false positives may matter more than the overall rank for your use case. Use these weights to decide which criteria matter to your team.

Your own evidence

Run a parallel test.

Use the same traffic window, record detection yield and false positives, and compare the work needed to act on each result. Products that install via a snippet or SDK can often run side by side; edge and challenge tools need a rollout plan.

Buyer questions

Buyer questions

What to check next

How should I choose a fraud detection tool?

Start with the abuse you need to catch, the surface you protect, and the decision your team must make. Shortlist tools that cover those needs, then compare detection yield, false positives, integration work and cost on the same traffic window.

Which tools are suited to native mobile apps?

Look for maintained iOS and Android SDKs, support for your cross-platform framework, and mobile-specific signals. Fingerprint and Incognia are strong starting points for a mobile-first evaluation, but test the current SDKs in your own app.

Are free tiers directly comparable?

No. A one-time identification allowance differs from a monthly quota. Vendors may count API calls, checks, events or seats, and a trial may expire after a fixed number of days. Normalize each offer to your expected traffic before comparing cost.

Do these products make decisions or just return signals?

Both models appear here. Some return a verdict or account-level detection; others return identifiers, scores or signals that your team must combine with rules. Ask for sample responses and test the operational work behind each option.

How do I evaluate false positives?

Track how many legitimate users are flagged during a representative test. Inspect which signals caused each flag and what recovery path is available. A lower false-positive rate can be more valuable than a slightly higher headline score.

Can I test two vendors side by side?

Often yes for snippet- or SDK-based tools: collect results in parallel without enforcing either verdict. Edge and challenge products may need monitoring mode or a controlled rollout to avoid interfering with user sessions.
